My temple” (108-stair) by Jinran Kim

The repetition in a staircase echoes the rhythms of life. This temple is like an intricate fragile construction of hope. I come here everyday to transform myself through a ceremony of wishing.  It is nothing special, it is essential.

Passing the along the gallery of the old castle’s servants‘ quarters, one can overhear snatches of daily life going on inside.  This is not the 19th century, the emperor is gone, and the citizens have taken up residence behind the sliding paper doors.  Approaching quietly you’ll hear them, moving about, talking amongst themselves.  Imagine you are the emperor and they are all talking about you!
