Drifting Seaweed by Elisa Duca
Material: Kabelbinder aus Edelstahl
Through the window of Berlin-Weekly we see a huge amorphous structure held in shape by a fan; on a screen behind it, fish perform a surreal dance. Elisa Duca’s installation Drifting Seaweed uses elements of her works Magical Manti and Soy Dreams to create a landscape between the real and the digital, the organic and the artificial. These beings are the result of collaboration with image-generating AI.
In Soy Dreams, synthetic fish-shaped creatures dream of being natural fish, of a materiality they never had. The inflatable object from Magical Manti is soft, large, and inviting
The title Drifting Seaweed evokes movement without direction, a gentle surrender to the current. Like seaweed drifting between the tides, the work exists in a state of in-between.
